11th March, 1890,
With reference to the recommendation contained in my letter of 15th ultimo respecting the necessity for a first-class trigonometrical survey of the Colony, I have the honour to call the attention of the Government to the desirability of following this up by a careful geological survey.
The limited area and comparative uniformity of the geological formation would, I think, make this a comparatively easy and inexpensive work, and it is not unlikely that it might be done by a qualified geologist residing in a neighbouring Colony.
